Review of Tim Watson In League with Extraordinary Gentleman by Melanie Henry

By 11th January 2016Reviews

Tim Watson excels himself in this wonderful addition to the saxophone repertoire. A concerto for alto saxophone and wind band is an excellent combination. Tim manages to project with great clarity throughout and is well supported by the superb energetic and sensitive playing of the band. Tim plays with great control and fluency and captures the mood, humour and intensity beautifully.
Each movement focuses on a different famous fictional person; The Time Traveller (H.G. Wells), Sherlock Holmes (Conan Doyle), Phileas Fogg (Jules Verne)

The characterisations are musically inventive and very convincing. I felt swept along as if listening to a film score, and the stories came flooding back to me.

Very enjoyable!
