As a composer, Tim enjoys writing all genres of music for a wide variety of ensembles. He has composed and arranged music for the BBC, three of his arrangements being performed for the televised Carnegie Challenge Cup Final at Wembley in front of 90,000 people, composed world premieres for Universities across the UK and Europe (including Liverpool and Riga Universities) and given master classes and workshops on commissioned works.

Whilst on the yearlong Royal Marines Bandmasters course, Tim studied theory, literacy, harmony/composition and scoring with many leading musicologists. Tim has been a composition student of Paul Patterson and Tim Reynish and has also collaborated with leading UK composers on world premieres, Adam Gorb, Peter Graham, Pete Meechan, Robin Dewhurst and John Holland.

Tim composes and arranges bespoke solo saxophone compositions for weddings and also writes for string/saxophone quartet, chamber and full orchestra, small/full wind ensembles, and function band to big band.

As a teacher/lecturer Tim gives composition lessons at all levels and to date, all of Tim’s composition students have obtained 1st class honours degrees from their respective Universities.

Brainstorm, written as a new notation composition for an MA in performance at Salford University, achieved Tim the highest mark of that year and is featured on his ‘Mist Covered Mountains’ compact disc recording with John Wilson at the piano. (The music is available by request).

Sclapax Funky Blues was written for the Liverpool BABSWE conference and is one of Tim’s more favoured compositions for workshop. Fun and engaging at all levels it was composed to incorporate a quartet of saxophones (any combination) up to any mount of players. This piece is very diverse and engaging at all levels, incorporating three different types of clapping. Riga University students also performed this piece very effectively in 2013, when Tim was visiting as a concerto soloist, lecturer and adjudicator.
